and LOTS of seagulls that I am unable to identify

This is a terrific picture! I'd say you chose well with your camera gear.
For some reason, I thought the northern shovelers had their own comment box. They're beautiful birds. I don't see them often here, but when I do, it's a special treat. This looks like a great place for birding.
